I have known Ashley for years. Her mom, Sally, and I use to work together forever ago 😉 I also had the pleasure of photographing her as the maid-of-honor for her sister, Allison. Allison and Kyle’s Lionsgate Event Center wedding was beautiful, and I just know Ashley and Nate’s will be as well. They are hoping for a winter wonderland for their Hotel Boulderado December wedding 🙂 Even if that doesn’t happen, they still got winter wonderland photos during their Breckenridge winter engagement photos! That has to count for something, right? We didn’t know how long the ice castles would be open for the season. So we planned their session very quickly after they booked my wedding services.
I have never had a bad session at the ice castles! While sometimes it’s very busy, and sometimes it’s really cold…the pictures always end up incredible 🙂 This day was certainly no exception. Although chilly (it is 9,000 feet after all!), it was sunny with the most beautiful blue skies. It’s fun to check out the ice castles each year. They make some slight changes/additions each time. This year they added a very cool ice bench, complete with a furry blanket for guests to snuggle on. Which Ashley and Nate, of course, did!
After a good amount of time at the ice castles, we ventured over to Sapphire Point, to add a little variety to their session. Holy cow, was it cold and windy there! So crazy, how much the weather can change in the Colorado mountains, by simply driving 15 minutes on a winter day. Needless to say, the time at Sapphire Point was very brief. They were ready to be done, and I was ok with it too, because it was SERIOUSLY the coldest my hands have ever felt! I really thought I might have frostbite 🙁 My hands ended up being alright, but I had to warm them on my car heater for a good 10 minutes before I could start making the drive home to Firestone. In the end…totally worth it!!
I had to photoshop several people out of this shot, but I sure think it’s worth it! Sometimes I just love a dramatic silhouette photo 🙂
This is definitely one of my favorites from their Breckenridge winter engagement photos. How cool are the ice castles?! If you haven’t visited…you MUST plan it for this coming winter. Kiddos will love it too!
Thanks so much for braving the cold with me, Ashley and Nate! I hope you love the photos and will cherish them always 🙂 The wedding day will be here before we know it. I can’t wait…I know it will be amazing!
