I am jumping WAY ahead in my blogging because I just cannot wait to share Evan and Gracie’s Colorado ski proposal photos! This was the first time I had an opportunity to photograph a proposal. This is quite a surprise to me actually, as I have been doing this for a decade now. Hiring a professional to photograph a surprise proposal has grown hugely popular over the years. I would see my colleagues shoot a ton of these sessions, but nope, not me. Evan changed that for me at the end of December…it was an amazing way to wrap up 2021!
Evan contacted me about a month prior to the proposal. He and his girlfriend were visiting from Georgia and were planning a ski trip at the Winter Park Resort. He wanted to proposal during their visit in the snowy Colorado mountains. We chatted quite extensively since neither of us had done this to figure out the best plan of action. I admitted to Evan that I am not the strongest skier, and he wasn’t necessarily interested in a remote backcountry location or anything anyway. So we settled on up at the Sunspot so that I didn’t have to get a full lift ticket, and just take the scenic chairlift ride up.
Since we both knew that Winter Park does have portrait photographers on staff, we decided I would pose as one of them. I brought a clipboard complete with names and phone numbers, so I looked even more legit. Evan and Gracie had lunch at the Sunspot and then after Evan asked her if she wanted to go on a walk and look around. I approached them (in an agreed upon spot), and asked to take their photo. They agreed and smiled for a few shots. Then I instructed them to just look away from me and take in the view. Evan dropped to his knew and Gracie’s reaction was EPIC! She was shocked, then jumping up and down. Passerby were cheering and clapping for them. It is not a session I will soon forget!
This is definitely one of my favorite images from these Colorado ski proposal photos. Actually it’s one of my favorites images in a long time! Gracie had such an amazing reaction!
After a quick outfit change, and a warm-up break we met back up at the base of the resort for some snowy winter engagement photos. I love how Gracie wore one glove…she just had to show off that new bling! These two were so much fun to photograph. They were obviously on cloud 9, totally overjoyed, so they were just thrilled to be loving on each other. They even had a little snowball fight, blew snow at me, tossed it into the air like confetti…we were all having a blast. Gracie is a ballerina too, so we just had to do some lifts and dips. As well as dancing in the snow.
Thanks so much Evan for trusting me to capture such an important moment in your guys’ lives! You definitely checked off one of the big bucket list items for my photography business. Wishing you two all the best during your engagement and wedding planning adventure. You are an amazing couple and I am sure your wedding day will be equally full of joy and excitement. It was my true honor to play a small part in your love story!
I am really hoping there will be even more surprise proposals in my future. Jumping back in time on the blog again tomorrow for Haley’s Longmont senior photos at Sandstone Ranch. Did I mention I still have 130 blog posts left in order to be caught up?! Oy, I will probably never catch up before busy season begins again. Progress over perfection I suppose 😉
