A couple of years ago I did Baillie’s senior session at the Denver Botanic Gardens. As well as their older brother’s photos a few years before that. The third Holy Family High School senior in this beautiful family was MacKenzie. She decided on Brainard Lake for her senior pictures in the Colorado mountains. Always such a beautiful choice, but boy oh boy we were not prepared for temperatures in the 30s in late July. Crazy Colorado! MacKenzie was such a trooper though. Good thing I happened to keep a blanket in the car. We definitely used that a lot! Since the older siblings also happened to be in town we also squeezed in a family mini session for this family of seven. I don’t usually do a full blog post for my mini sessions though. But those really turned out cute, trust me on that!
MacKenzie did several outfits during her senior session. She started in a simple white dress and white sneakers. After some photos by the mountain river and the small waterfall she added her letterman jacket over top. Next we headed over to the main Brainard Lake and MacKenzie changed into denim overalls with a white tube top underneath. This was a cute and casual choice. Her third outfit was also a white tube top. She paired this with a long, tiered skirt that featured both lace and a blue floral print. Most of my clients do want to get in the lake during their session. I wasn’t sure if MacKenzie would though, because of the frigid temperature. I was very wrong though. In fact, she got in there in multiple outfits. This was the first of the two long skirts that were dipped into the chilly snowmelt waters.
MacKenzie’s next outfit was baggy jeans and a lacy, hot pink tank top. That’s really close to one of my brand’s colors, so obviously I really love it! The pop of color in these final two outfits were really beautiful on this cloudy, overcast day. The final outfit was my personal favorite. MacKenzie wore a long, vibrant coral dress with a fun, multiple-tie back. She went back into the lake in this outfit. She was giving major little mermaid vibes when she was sitting on the large rock in the middle of the water. So pretty…what an awesome session!

This is one of my favorites from these senior pictures in the Colorado mountains. That water is so still, the whole scene beautiful, and I love MacKenzie’s little smirk.

Thanks MacKenzie (and family!), this was such a fun session and I absolutely loved the results. Minus the cold, I don’t think we could have asked for a better evening in the mountains. Have a fun and memorable senior year. Enjoy it all, it goes super fast! Next on the blog, another lake senior sessions but a MUCH warmer and sunnier day. Check back soon for Emily’s Coot Lake session.
