It’s always fun working with the Laughlin family! Their Estes Park family photos in Rocky Mountain National Park were no exception. I have probably expressed this before, but I just love working with my wedding clients again, well after their wedding day. The wedding is only one of the important milestones in life, so it’s always fun sharing in their journey and growing along with them 🙂 Michele and Justin were first my clients at their baseball themed engagement session back in 2014. Later that year I captured their wedding photos, then eventually maternity photos, and now two family sessions as a family of 5. They are a great bunch. Super kind and gracious, easy-going, and genuinely happy together!
The Laughlin’s 2016 photo session took place during the fall and was full of vibrant yellows and oranges of the changing aspen trees. They decided they wanted to change things up this time and have a snowy, winter session in RMNP instead. I am so glad they did! Not nearly enough people want a portrait session during the chilly winter months. I do understand it, the weather is much more unpredictable. But when it comes together well, it’s a magical season! Aside from the wind at our first stop, Sheep Lakes, the weather was really great for wintertime at 8,500 feet! We got their session in before Christmas and incorporated the season by hanging some giant ornaments in a tree and bringing a few candy canes into the photos too. After some windy fun at Sheep Lakes, we ventured over to Sprague Lake. We had some really gorgeous golden hour light to play with, and I just love the results! Can’t wait to see what future sessions have in store with the Laughlin family 🙂
The perfect sized snowman friend for Owen! It was there right when we pulled up to Sprague Lake…what a fun little surprise 🙂

It’s always a great time photographing in Rocky Mountain National Park. There is a permit to shoot there, but the views are simply unbeatable, so it’s certainly worth it! I would sure like to book more Estes Park family photos in the park. Especially if they are anything like the Laughlin’s awesome family session 🙂 So whatever the season…it’s a good time for nice portraits with those you love!
