I am so excited to finally be sharing this post with you all! This was one of my favorites from last year 🙂 I had seen another photography colleague do a gymnastics session, and I was so inspired to try too! Yes, I was kind of copying her idea…but I did my own take on all of the photos. Plus, basically every idea for a photoshoot has been done before lol! I have photographed so many dancers over the years, so this was a really fun change too. I asked my senior rep team if anybody had any gymnast connections, and that is how I met Lindsay. She and her mom were as excited as I was to capture these gymnastics senior pictures!
What a blast photographing Lindsay around this gym in Johnstown. This isn’t where Lindsay does her training, but they were so nice to let us use the facility for a brief session anyway. So a special shout out to Gymstarz Elite!
While I absolutely loved my dance training and classes growing up, I really did want to pursue gymnastics as well. When I was quite young, I think my parents were kind of worried I would get hurt doing gymnastics, so they encouraged dance instead. Plus, with two other sisters, we couldn’t afford to do a bunch of dance classes, gymnastics, and my sisters’ activities. So I committed to dance! I think I would have been decent at gymnastics if I had started at a young age. I was very strong with leaps and jumps, flexible, and most importantly, disciplined! Also, I taught myself front and back walk-overs, handsprings, roundoffs, etc. Nothing crazy advanced at all, but with some training, who knows?!
LOVE this one!! It was the one “must get” shot from these gymnastics senior pictures.
As you can tell, this shoot was a nice challenge too because I played with “off camera flash” a lot! I loved the results.
Lindsay and her family loved the way these gymnastics senior pictures came out so much, they hired me her for “normal” summer senior photography session too! Those were a really fun time too 🙂 I will share that urban session in Prospect New Town with you in the coming months. Thank you, thank you Lindsay! It was so wonderful doing this unique and creative session with you. I hope these photos bring back lots of happy memories for years to come. Since I know you aren’t really planning to pursue gymnastics after high school, these photos will help you remember how awesome you were and what a fun athletic endeavor it was!
Who says senior portraits have to be “cookie cutter”?! Hopefully this shows you how amazing and personalized your session can be. To see another of my favorite athletic senior sessions, click here to check out Tiana’s swimming senior photos.
