Hannah-Class of 2019 | Berthoud High Senior Photos | Gross Reservoir

Hannah found me on Instagram last year. She really wanted fall foliage and mountain views in her Berthoud High senior photos. We had pushed the session back because she was waiting to get a cast off. Then we had some fairly early snow storms that affected the aspen trees and made them lose their leaves sooner than expected. Hannah loved Alyssa and Dustin’s fall session at Gross Reservoir. So I made the drive up there to see if there was any fall color left. Although the trees on the drive up looked really barren…I kept on driving, and glad I did 🙂 I found an aspen grove that survived the storm. Though it was past “peak”, we made it work, and the photos came together beautifully.

Gross Reservoir is a little bit of a haul…about 30 minutes outside of Boulder, near Nederland. It has great mountain and reservoir views, rock formations, tons of pine and evergreen trees, and a few aspen groves. Although Hannah and I did not hike all the way down to the water’s edge, I did at a future session (check back soon!), and the sand down there seemed like an Oregon beach or something. It’s really a wonderful location! And still mostly a hidden gem. Hannah was a very sweet young lady. She doesn’t have her future plans totally mapped out yet. But was thinking about studying marine biology in California, possibly. All the best to you Hannah, in whatever path you chose.

Gross Reservoir is anything but “gross” lol! I am not sure if it’s named after someone or what, but not a seemingly fitting name for such a pretty place!

Hannah was the first Berthoud High student I have had the privilege of photographing. I hope she won’t be the last though! It’s a great little community, where my twin sister and her family lives. And so close to the Longmont area, where I do the majority of my Colorado senior photography work 🙂 Molly and Connor’s colorful summer wedding is coming to the blog tomorrow.
