Happy Fri-yay! I hope you have fun plans for the weekend. I have a bunch of editing to catch up on. Also meeting with one of my 2020 couples, and photographing engagement portraits for another one. I will hopefully sneak some family time in there too! Speaking of family…meet the Buffingtons. Shanon is actually a fellow local photographer. It was nice to finally meet her in person, but it’s always a little nerve wracking photographing another photographer. I think their Longmont CO family photos came together wonderfully though…phew!

The Buffington family participated in my first ever spring mini sessions. These Longmont CO family photos took place at Roosevelt Park. But unlike my other family sessions that weekend, we didn’t stick to just one location. After capturing some nice nature photos at the park, we headed down the block for some more urban shots against this artsy wall in downtown Longmont. I found this wall a couple of years ago, while scouting locations for Sasha’s Silver Creek senior photos. You can view that session HERE.

The Buffington family was really wonderful to work with. Shanon is sure outnumbered though, with all these men in her life 🙂 The boys are all so kind and loving though. I sure hope my kiddo is that courteous too when he is a teenager LOL! And for having a photographer in the family, they don’t seem to hate the camera as much as most photographer’s children. The proof is in these genuine, nice smiles. Enjoy!

Roosevelt Park, presumably named for President Theodore Roosevelt after his visit to Longmont in 1900, is one of the original parks planned by the Chicago-Colorado Colony. Covering three city blocks, the land was purchased in 1871 and donated to the city in 1892. At first, the park was called Lake Park, then Longmont Driving Park, and featured a lake used for ice skating, a half-mile racetrack, and racing barns. In 1945, the Longmont Lions Club began planting the rose garden on the east side of the park as a war memorial. It was moved to the west side of the park in 1951. (source: LongmontColorado.gov)

While Roosevelt Park may not be a super popular location for Longmont family photos, I sure love it! Yes, there is a large playground, numerous houses, a swimming pool, and a giant pavilion to shoot around. It does, however, have some real positives too. In the spring the crabapple trees are blossoming beautifully in soft pinks and whites. During summer the rose gardens (mentioned above) are full of every color of the rainbow. In fall, there is even a little bit of fall foliage. I haven’t been in winter, but if there is some snow on the ground…I am sure we could get some incredible shots too!

Thanks again Shanon, AJ, Payton, Riley & Ian. I would love to have your smiling faces in front of my camera again someday 🙂 Wishing you all a wonderful 2020. On the blog next, Sarah’s funky, nighttime senior portraits. Enjoy your weekend, friends!
