Behind doesn’t even begin to cover it, here on the blog! I have shot nearly 80 senior sessions since this one, and have countless weddings and other portrait sessions to share as well. Progress over perfection, I suppose! For my first post in a very long time I bring you Madeline’s Boulder Colorado senior photography session. Her session was a two day event, because the weather did not fully cooperate on day one.
Since Madeline and family had driven from Nebraska for her session, I wanted to make sure they got their money’s worth, and that we got photos in all of the outfits she had planned. So after the wind and rain ended things early for our golden hour, evening session, we woke up at sunrise to capture even more shots. I don’t often do sunrise sessions, as I am an extreme night owl! But this was worth it to get so many great photos for Madeline to chose from.
Day 1 of Madeline’s mountain senior session started at Gross Reservoir.
I like this location a lot! It’s pretty, and not as crazy busy as many Colorado mountain locations. Gross Reservoir boasts mountain views, clear, calm water, and lots of trees. It was just what Madeline was looking for when she was planning a Colorado mountain senior session 🙂 We got a lot of great shots, but then when she was about to change into another outfit, the wind kicked up  and it started to really rain. We made the hike back up to the parking lot (my lungs were burning!), and started our drive back down towards Boulder. We had planned to try for Lost Gulch overlook on the way down, and hope we could wrap up the session there that evening. It was pouring there as well, however, so we decided to call it a day!
Day 2 I got up at the crack of dawn to drive back to Boulder to meet Madeline and her mom by 6 am. The major blessing in disguise here is that we had Lost Gulch Lookout to ourselves. Which, if you have ever been there during the day or at sunset, you will know how packed it always is! Here we got some “top of world” type mountain shots, then we headed back to Gross Reservoir one last time to finish up the session. It got quite bright by then, but overall I was so thrilled with all of the great photos we got! Madeline is a beauty, and she was a lot of fun to photograph. I have the best job!
This is one of my favorites from Madeline’s Boulder Colorado senior photography session!
Thank you so much Madeline! You were a joy to photograph. I hope your senior session will be something you will always remember. And the photos will be something you and your family will cherish for years to come. I am really hoping it won’t be another 4+ months until my next post. Still trying to get through all of my editing from the busiest 6 weeks of my photography career. Taylor and Cody’s intimate Breckenridge covid wedding is coming to the blog next 🙂 Stay well friends!
