Kara and Mitchel + 1 On The Way | Colorado Mountain Maternity Portraits | Echo Lake

Kara and Mitchel were visiting Colorado, from Illinois, for a “baby moon” getaway. They decided they wanted some Colorado mountain maternity portraits with our amazing scenery during their visit. We decided on Echo Lake Park for their session, which worked out perfectly! Besides a little bit of rain, it was a great day in the mountains. Even in early June we can get dumped on with snow at these higher elevations. So we were totally fine with a few minutes of light rain! Plus we got a rainbow right after, which looked incredible against the dramatic clouds.

Wow did we get a ton of variety during their photo shoot! Kara and Mitchel had three outfits each during their session. Kara started in denim overalls and a striped top. This was the first time a maternity client has rocked overalls…and I hope not the last! She looked absolutely adorable in these. Mitchel kept it casual in a black polo and jeans. Next came the dressy outfit! Kara had a curve-hugging, vibrant floral dress. It looked spectacular on her and against the blues of the sky and mountains and the greens of all the pine trees. Mitchel wore gray dress pants and a suit vest, with a bright pink tie that matched his wife’s dress beautifully!

The final outfits were more “cozy casual”, which was great as we were approaching sunset at 10,600 feet above sea level. They both wore jeans. Kara had a white top with a hunter green cardigan over top. While Mitchel wore a gray button down shirt. I know how much thought and planning she put into their outfits…I’d say it paid off! The three outfits helped with the variety in these photos, but so did the location. We got a ton with the lake and mountains, but we also got some shots against the stone structures, the wooden fences, and with the pine trees surrounding us on all sides. I captured silhouettes of the belly, and showed off those dramatic rain clouds, as well as the colorful sky at sunset. We made use of every last drop of sunlight, and I’d call that a very successful session!
