Hooray…April has arrived and spring is in the air! Totally slacking so far this month here on the blog. I have been busy editing sessions and weddings. As well as building a DIY jewelry storage unit for my closet. I like to dabble in home improvement during my slower season (December through April typically). You can check out my DIY work over on Instagram @plumprettyspaces, if you have any interest. For the first blog post for the new month I am bringing you Erica and William’s intimate Garden of the Gods wedding photos from last summer.
Erica, William and their closest friends and family traveled from Kansas City for their intimate mountain wedding. Their original plan was to get married at the Crystal Creek Reservoir on the top of Pike’s Peak. I was excited, as I always enjoy exploring and photographing at new locations. Just a few days before the wedding they found out that the reservoir had not been filled yet, and it was really not the scenic ceremony site they were envisioning. Their wedding coordinator recommended High Point Overlook at Garden of the Gods. They liked this location, and so they decided on the last minute switch. I have shot at this location many times, and even made a stop there for my own engagement photos back in 2010. Problem solved!
Garden of the Gods worked beautifully, but I definitely still need to check out Crystal Creek Reservoir out someday too.
One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer is that no two weddings are alike! Erica and William’s intimate, micro wedding was so special and personal in many ways. Some of the unique moments of the day included the inclusion of their their children into the ceremony…even an unborn child! Erica was pregnant and this was the first time that I have incorporated maternity style photos into my couple’s wedding portraits too 🙂 Another unique moment was sharing their first dance and the father-daughter dance right there on the red rock formations at their ceremony site.
During their post-ceremony wedding portraits, it started to rain a little bit. Since they weren’t having a traditional reception, and a dinner at a restaurant instead, my coverage was ending after the couple’s photography session. We had a little bit of coverage time left, but they were ready to get out of the rain. So we decided to head back to the hotel and capture a few more couples photos. This wasn’t a large hotel, but we found some little spots to work! There was a big stone wall, as well as an outdoor fireplace with distant mountain views. These photos were a nice addition to their Colorado Springs wedding gallery.
Congratulations again Erica and William…on your wedding and on your new bundle of joy! I know you have had so many ups and downs together already. Hoping there are nothing but ups from here (if only that could be the case for us all!). You have such a strong foundation though, and have built an amazing family already. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness, health and friendship together. On the blog next, Connor’s senior session at Golden Ponds in Longmont and then at Firestone’s Saddleback Golf Club. That was a fun one…I hope you will check back soon!
