The Larsen Family | Colorado Cake Smash Photos | Golden History Park

Say hello to the awesome Larsen family. I always love working with these guys…this shoot may have been the most fun yet! We went to the Golden History Park for this two part session. We started with family photos incorporating the rustic buildings and mountain views. The second half of the session was Lucas’ first birthday Colorado cake smash photos. A storm was moving in, and the dark clouds had us a little bit worried. That reminded me of their rainy maternity session from Evergreen Lake. Thankfully we managed to get a ton of variety before the storm rolled in.

I have shot at the Golden History Park a few times over the years, it’s a great little spot! It’s got great variety in an easily walkable area. That is why it’s especially great for families. It also doesn’t require a permit, like so many other Colorado locations do. We took photos on the bridge with mountain views, with all the wood of the rustic structures, and with the colorful flowers in the garden. Since I don’t have a studio space of my own, I don’t do a ton of cake smash sessions. They are always fun though! I am glad the Larsens were open for doing it outdoors. We were extremely careful to leave no trace, and clean up everything we brought in!

Kailey put a lot of thought into the cake smash photos, and brought along some great props. She had two different hats for Lucas (although he didn’t want to keep either of them on his head!), and cute suspenders. A white teepee, balloons, a colorful banner, and a sprinkle cake on a cake stand completed our scene. Like a lot of little ones, Lucas was very hesitant at first. Once Kailey encouraged him to taste the cake, there was no holding back! He thoroughly enjoyed it and went back for seconds, thirds, fourths…and on and on LOL! He was covered in frosting from head to toe. A true sign of a successful cake smash session.

Kailey also brought along a metal basin. At first I assumed it would be a little bath to clean Lucas up before getting back in the car. But nope, it was a “milk and cookies bath” instead. How fun is that?! Lucas got to continue with the sweets and munched on some cookie cereal too. I had actually never seen this idea…even on Pinterest. It’s always so great to photograph something new and different. Good job mama!
