Today on the blog I am sharing some of the most unique Colorado senior pictures I have ever captured! It was the location that made this session so unique. We were all set to meet up at Buckingham Park up Lefthand Canyon. Tasha and her dad arrived early for the session, and it was packed with visitors (probably because it was Labor Day). They were concerned it was going to be too busy for her session, so they called me. I went into panic mode a little bit trying to come up with a plan B. We needed a somewhat close location in either Lyons, Longmont, or Boulder that would fit Tasha’s needs and that didn’t require a permit. Since we clearly didn’t have enough time to obtain one! Then Tasha’s dad suggested the Valmont Power Plant in Boulder. Ummm…ok, sure! I did not know what to expect!
Tasha’s dad use to work at the Valmont Power Plant had shut down years ago. The old structures remain and Tasha’s dad still has access. While I never expected to shoot at an abandoned power plant, that is what we did LOL! Her dad gave us a tour inside, and my creative wheels were spinning. Tasha decided, however, that she would rather stick to an outdoor session as planned. Totally fine by me, and there were still many unique and creative photo opps outdoors…such as the three tall smoke stacks, cool old brick and ivy walls, a beautiful stone covered bridge, and the giant old compound steam engine that she sat on.
Another thing that made this session unique was the fact that Tasha is the first female wrestler that I have had the opportunity to work with. How cool is that?! She brought her wrestling shoes and her letterman jacket along, and I was sure to incorporate those into her session. Aside from her letterman jacket, Tasha also selected two dresses for her session. One was white, and she completed the look with a cowgirl hat and boots. The other dress was navy blue, that was a great color on her and my personal favorite! Plan B ended up being super unique, and actually quite personal for Tasha and her family. I guess it was meant to be!

This is one of my favorites from Tasha’s unique Colorado senior pictures. A great smile and a cool backdrop with the juxtaposition of the ragged, aged building with the vibrant trees.

Tasha, I had a lot of fun with you! I hope you love and enjoy these photos for years to come. Hopefully your senior year has been a blast so far and that it’s your best wrestling season yet 🙂 On the blog tomorrow, the Polston’s Sprague Lake family session and pregnancy announcement. See you back here soon!
