Taking you back to South Mesa Trail again. Like I said, it’s always a hot spot! This time for Tara and Ken’s Boulder Colorado maternity portraits. This is such a beautiful couple. Tara looked absolutely stunning pregnant. They included their first “baby” into the photos. Their tiny little fur baby! Tara really wanted epic views for her session. They decided they didn’t want to drive way into the mountains though. We decided on South Mesa Trail. I adore how the photos turned out at South Mesa, so I hope they were happy with the location decision. As the session went on and we started to chat more and more, we realized that Tara actually went to Niwot High School during the timeframe that I was the head coach of the cougar dance team. She remembered some of the ladies that I had on my team. What a small world!
Tara and Ken kept things simple by only wearing one outfit each during their session. I really leave this up to clients. Some might want a lot of outfits to have a ton of variety. Other clients don’t want to deal with outfit changes during the session. Or sometimes they just love one outfit SO much that they want the entire session in that one option. I am flexible! Sessions go faster if we don’t have to make outfit changes, and easier if I don’t have to carry my portable changing tent around. But in the end, I just want clients to do what makes them happy. Tara looked so amazing in this fuchsia dress! You know I love this color, since it was spot on with my brand colors for Plum Pretty Photography. That vibrant color completed her dark, long locks and her beautiful skin tone wonderfully. Ken wore a gingham plaid button down shirt and tan pants to compliment Tara’s look.

This is definitely one of my favorites from Tara and Ken’s Boulder Colorado maternity portraits. I know you don’t see much of Tara and Ken in this one, but I still love it. And it’s ok to put the focus on their first baby for one or two shots!
I have photographed a lot of dogs over the past twelve years doing wedding and portrait photography. Tara and Ken’s dog has to be up there as one of the most photogenic pups I have ever worked with. She would look right at the camera. Sometimes it almost even seemed like she was smiling at the camera too! Sometimes including a dog in your session is a real challenge, if only they could all go so smoothly.

Thanks so much Tara and Ken. Wishing you the very best with your journey into parenthood. It’s can be so challenging, but it’s so incredibly rewarding! On the blog next, heading back to Brainard Lake. This time for Lili’s senior session. We incorporated her love of rock climbing and her journey into culinary arts. That was a really amazing session, so check back and see those 🙂
