Happy Friday all! Today on the blog one of my favorite types of teen clientele…a beautiful ballerina! AND this is my 450th post here on the blog. Holy cow that’s a lot lol!! For Amelie’s Colorado ballet senior photos, we met up in the funky area of south Longmont called Prospect New Town. Prospect is a really cool area, and I shoot here quite often. Usually when my senior clients want colorful, urban shots, without having to drive to Boulder, Denver, or Fort Collins. Prospect is also super quite…we usually have the place to ourselves! Aside from a few neighborhood locals walking their dogs, etc. This neighborhood is chock-full of colorful homes and office buildings, and cool architectural elements.
You may remember that I too have a dance background. Although ballet was never my primary focus like it is with Amelie, I still absolutely loved doing pointe 🙂 In fact, my own “senior solo” at the 2000 Dance Dimensions dance recital was a pointe routine. Amelie is a way better ballerina than me though, I could just tell watching her grace and beauty during our brief photoshoot. And those ballerina feet, with that nice arch are way prettier than my flat feet ever were! I had my own strengths too, I suppose 😉 Back in my day (how old do I sound right now?!), I could leap extremely high…it was what I was known for at the dance studio, and the Longmont High dance team alike. Back to amazing Amelie. She was seriously the sweetest client, and over a year later she still supports my business Instagram by liking my work.
After getting a ton of great dance photos ALL over Prospect, we headed to Lyons for some non-dance shots. We decided to shoot at the Lavern M. Johnson Park. This is another great spot, that I have been frequenting more and more over the past couple years. It boasts cool rock formations, a bridge, lots of trees and the St. Vrain River flowing around it! It’s a great spot for nature photos, and still largely a hidden gem.
I loved a lot of shots during this session, but this is definitely a favorite of Amelie’s Colorado ballet senior photos!
We spent longer over in Prospect than I had intended, and so once we got over to the Lyons park we were losing light fast! Thankfully, we still managed to get some great non-dance photos, in a nature setting. We didn’t have a ton of time in each of the “normal” outfits, but we still managed to get shots in 4 completely different looks 🙂 That’s one thing I love about working with dancers…they are experts with a quick costume change! I remember changing backstage on numerous occasions back in my high school dance recital days!
Thanks Amelie for a really fun and memorable session! I hope your passion for ballet will continue long after high school. You are so lovely, inside and out, and it was my true pleasure to capture this important season in your young life 🙂 I am sure the future has great things in store for you!
