Brainard Lake is quickly becoming one of my favorite locations! I sure wish it was open year round . Well, technically you can still get there year round, but it requires miles and miles of snowshoeing during the winter months. Fall is a great time of year though! It’s not as busy, and the fall foliage is beautiful. For Jackie’s Colorado mountain senior photography session we also lucked out with peak fall colors at this aspen grove near the main entrance 🙂 Our luck stopped there though, because it was an extremely windy evening! At least it seemed to let up by the end. Jackie was such a trooper though! With a little photoshop for her hair and goosebumps, you can hardly even tell we were struggling with crazy, chilly wind.
We started the photo shoot back by the stream running through the trees, and by the tiny waterfall. Does this even count as a waterfall, I am not sure lol?! Either way, it’s a beautiful hidden gem, that I stumbled upon when I made my first trip up there a few years ago. Amongst so many large trees, the wind was blocked pretty well…yay! Then, we headed to the wide open fields near the lake. That is where the wind was the strongest, with nothing to block it. But we just had to shoot in this area because it’s jaw-droppingly gorgeous with those amazing mountain views! As you can probably tell though, shooting at that spot was short-lived. She was in a dress, and was pretty frigid. We got a few great ones, so still well worth it.
This is one of my favorites from Jackie’s Colorado mountain senior photography session at Brainard Lake!
Next, we headed back towards the entrance. Jackie put on a casual (and slightly warmer) outfit, and we added her sweet furbaby in for a few shots. Her dog was very well-behaved. It only took a couple woof woofs and meows to get him/her (sorry, I cannot remember!) to look right at the camera. Finally, off to the colorful aspen grove, where we took a large portion of our photos. Fall foliage was important to Jackie, so we were to sure get a bunch of photos here 🙂 Jackie kept her clothing pretty neutral throughout her shoot. This was great against the fall colors, because her outfit was not competing with the vibrant yellows. Normally I am all about color. But the grays and whites really worked in this case. And if a neutral color palette represents a client well, then that will always be the way to go. I want the photos to represent the real you! Definitely another favorite below…love all the color, the texture from the fallen tree trunk, and Jackie’s sweet smile!
Thank you so much Jackie, I had a wonderful afternoon with you! Sorry friends, for slacking on the blog in the past week or so. I have been busy with some home projects, then we spent Valentine’s Day up in the Winter Park area, and then have had a sick kiddo home with me all week. I will try to do better, since I have probably 80 sessions and weddings still to share. Oy, will I ever catch up? Probably not 😉 Have a great weekend all!
