Today on the blog, Heather’s Colorado sand dunes maternity photos. Oh my goodness was this session epic! I have had some really wonderful maternity sessions over the years, but this one probably takes the cake. Mostly due to the fact that not only did we have this unique, extraordinary landscape to work with. But also, because Heather had three amazing maternity gowns for the photo shoot. She started in a curve-hugging navy blue lace and tulle mermaid style dress. This was such a glamorous dress, and she completely rocked it! If you have been to the Great Sand Dunes National Park you probably know there is A LOT of walking involved! So we brought everything along with us, so we didn’t have to make the long trek back to the cars. I brought along my trusty pop-up changing tent for outfit changes. The struggle was real with that tent though! It was super windy (as it often is at this location), so I was trying to hold this massive “kite” while Heather is inside changing. We made it work, despite the struggles, but my tent was full of sand for weeks after this LOL!
For the second outfit Heather wore an emerald green flowy, cotton dress. Another beautifully flattering dress on this gorgeous, glowing mama! I loved how this green color popped against all the sand, and the golden hour sunlight. Often with these long maternity gowns we have to swing the dress train around, or toss it in the air, but not at this windy location. These dresses were floating in the breeze very easily. The final dress was an online rental. OH.MY.GOODNESS!! So stunning…an absolute show-stopper! This has to be my favorite maternity dress I have ever photographed. It was so intricate and detailed, a touch glam, and a touch boho.
As you will see below, we got a lot of great variety for Heather!
At first I was worried we would run out of ideas. This landscape can appear a little redundant. Often maternity shoots will include the woman’s significant other, but Heather’s husband stayed home to watch their other children. No problem at all. Since we made such a long drive to the dunes though, I wanted Heather to feel like she got her money’s worth. Especially since this was her last baby, and she wanted to go out with an epic shoot! The multiple outfits helped a lot, and ideas just kept coming thankfully. Tons of amazing stuff 🙂
This is definitely one of my favorites from these Colorado sand dunes maternity photos! Stunning dress, stunning mama, stunning landscape…absolutely love it!
Thank you so much Heather. I hope I helped bring your vision to life! This is a shoot I won’t soon forget. Hopefully I have a chance to work with you again. It would be so great to capture photos of your whole family someday. Speaking of family, on the blog next the Filer family. Their Longmont spring photos with all of the blossoming trees turned out really great. Check back soon!
