The Carey Family | Larkspur Family Photos | Dawson Butte Open Space

About a decade ago I met Marissa at Bob and Dawn Davis’ real wedding workshop for Lauren and Justin. We have remained friends on social media ever since. She and her family decided to come out from Texas for the Thanksgiving holiday. They have an aunt and uncle that live right near the venue that houses the Colorado Renaissance Festival each summer. So I had actually been in that area, but not for many years. Marissa asked if I’d be willing to make the drive down to capture their Larkspur family photos. I said of course! It was so great to see Marissa and meet her family as well. We started out with photos at her aunt and uncle’s property. We could get a little sliver of mountains between the large pine trees. It looked really nice with a little bit of snow on the ground.

We didn’t spend a lot of time there, they wanted to go over to the nearby Dawson Butte Open Space to get some more variety in their session. This location worked out very well! I had never been there before, I don’t shoot many portraits in this area. If I am working in Larkspur, it’s usually at a local wedding venue. We got photos with the last traces of fall foliage. As well as a bunch of photos with the snow, since they don’t get much of that in their Texas photos. Marissa has got three really great kids! These three were so sweet and silly, we had a lot of fun together. The whole family is so photogenic, it made my job pretty easy.

This is one of my favorites from the Carey’s Larkspur family photos. I just love all of the different colors in the image, and these wonderful, sweet smiles!
